Focus on French Cinema

Held at Pepsico Theater, Performing Arts Center, Purchase College, this annual 3-day event is organized by Alliance Francaise of Greenwich. Last year over 2,000 people attended. All films are in French with English subtitles. This exciting film festival, held at the end of March or early April, includes films not usually available in the US and gives a unique insight into the French film industry. Not only do you get to see great films, but the audience has the opportunity to meet actors and directors.

 

Greenwich Classic Film Series

Now in its 36th season and with over 700 members, it has two 6-film series. Movies from the 30s through the 70s with lectures by guest film critics are shown at the Bow Tie Movie Theater, Saturday mornings at 10 am and Monday evenings at 7 pm. Membership is $125 for a 6-film series. Join their mailing list by sending your e-mail address.

 

Greenwich Library Friday Films

On most Friday nights at 8 pm (doors open at 7:40) in the Cole Auditorium, the Library shows award-winning US and foreign films. Admission is free. Call or use the web site to get a schedule and verify that a film is being shown.

Avon Art Films

The Avon Theater is a fully restored classic movie theater. Built in 1939, the Avon was run by Crown Theaters until it closed in 1998. In 2001 it was purchased by a private investor from Greenwich. The theater was fully restored and reopened January, 2004 and shows independent, art and foreign films as well as Hollywood classics.

One of the least expensive theaters in the area. A good place to take a group of children and your best bet for avoiding long lines.
